This gorgeous Mediterranean bar and restaurant, inside SBE's very red, somewhat ritzy yet boho Redbury Hotel, pays tribute to silver-screen stars from yesteryear via massive black & white prints on its ornate, wallpapered interior (the iconic shot of actress Theda Bara as a menacing Cleopatra from the 1917 silent film is the room's centerpiece). Yes, there's lots to look at here, both on the walls and on the plates: small plates with Greek flare, traditional tapas and raw-bar nibbles, all prepared in an open kitchen. It's a warm, sexy and glamorous atmosphere for sure, and the crowd definitely lives up to the surroundings. So does the food (the work of SBE's corporate chef, Danny Elmaleh), much of which is baked inside a wood-burning oven. After dinner or drinks, exploring the lavish yet funky hotel, which had design input from famed photog Matthew Rolston, is a must.

I am hard to please when it comes to mediterranean food, but everything that came out of kitchen and landed on our table was of superb quality, but be careful with that delicious bread - you might get full way before you intended to and there is a lot to taste. Downsides: too much of "beautiful" crowd, and the service is really confusing as you get not one but three or four waiters and they don't always coordinate between themselves well. Otherwise, as far as food goes, it is really good (and they did not even have to try so hard; the design is gorgeous and there is all that hype, but they do, they truly do). Thumbs up.
