This huge duplex space houses a sophisticated version of a cafeteria, with fetch-yer-own salads, sandwiches, room-temperature pastas, fried chicken, baked salmon, and the like. At prime lunchtime, it's downright insane to eat there, and the thing is, when fried chicken sits around, it gets soggy. That will always be true, unfortunately. Most items, even those that hold up texture-wise, are under-seasoned. However, the bakery part of City Bakery is quite good. Stop in for big, flat, sugary chocolate chip cookies or a miniature, seasonally appropriate tart or pie. If you really like yourself, you'll get a pain chocolat.

There was the distinct sound of gasps and a holding of breaths when CITY BAKERY packed up and moved a few months ago to a new location. Thankfully, all the good stuff is still available, with a few new items--some good, some inspired but ultimately unsuccessful clunkers.
