It seems fitting that Cinco Cantina & Tequila Bar opened in the Village of Merrick Park on Cinco de Mayo. Not only are the two "Cincos" in sync, but both holiday and restaurant are defined in the States by a festive spirit, tequila, and Mexican food -- or sorta Mexican food. Therein lies the problem. Though the patio is a lovely place to sit and quaff some Mexican beers and tequilas (perhaps with some creamy guac and chips), the cuisine lacks spark. That said, the best entrées sampled were a hefty chile relleno swelled with goat cheese and cojita, and juicy carne asada fajitas. Cinco likely won't become your go-to place for Mex, but you'd be hard-pressed to find a better spot to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.
