Food? Entertainment? Drinks galore? This sprawling Loop landmark has you covered. Peruse the super-extensive beer list (and prepare to be wowed: Cicero's has hard-to-find gems like Young's Double Chocolate Stout and McEwan's IPA on tap), listen to live music (usually of the rock or indie variety) and stuff your face with way-better-than-average bar food. Pizzas here are thin-crust but not crackery, and the varieties - such as chicken Alfredo, "green" (broccoli, spinach, green pepper and pesto) and Buffalo shrimp -- are far from ho-hum. The salmon burger and the deep-fried artichoke hearts are unexpected treats, too. Cicero's has always been a haven for jam-band junkies, thanks to frequent performances by acts such as Madahoochi, but the club's show repertoire extends to everything from rock to alt-country to the occasional national touring act.
Taste and learn about great beer with weekly specials on both beer and appetizers.

Event Review: Archon
Having never been to Cicero's and having never heard the band Archon before I had absolutely no idea what the night would hold. Cicero's had the most amazing collection of beer I have ever seen, for once I could go up to the bar and order what I really wanted instead of substituting for an inferior brew. Overall my night was a great one, however on a few negative notes. All the bands were great but Afton Productions needs to spend more time listening to the bands when booking the shows as a few of them stood out and didn't mesh together. Now the Headliner's Archon was an amazing experience I just wish the openers had been similar in sound, but I understand how hard it is to find local bands who play that kind of metal. Listening to Archon is like drinking freshly brewed mead from a horn while visions of half nude Valkyries dance on the waves of epic sound. Hard hitting music, epic leads and excellent folk metal vocals usher in the atmosphere and statement underneath everyone in the audiences breath, this is something epic and special. I taped the performance and had a very difficult time not dancing or headbanging. The band has excellent songs and great stage performance and definitely look forward to hearing them again.
The parallels between attending a show at Cicero's and playing the first level of Super Mario Bros. are stunning. The primitive video game involves three simple, yet tedious stages (parking, walking to the club, and waiting in line, respectively), ultimately ending in the final stage: an encounter with a large, menacing boss character whom you must pass to enter the castle. At Cicero's this metaphorical giant green turtle is doorman/bouncer Darryl Brown. There's nary a point during any... More »

Back in the day, the old Cicero's -- y'know, the one that became Blueberry Hill's Duck Room -- was a haven for up-and-coming bands. In 2007 the new Cicero's assumed a similar role for scads of young indie-rockers in town, thanks to the monthly "New Music Thursdays" event. On the first Thursday of each month, new-music fanatics can trek to the Loop secure in the knowledge that they're guaranteed to see a fantastic multi-band show. In fact, the musicians who have played the night... More »
Beer. It's not as simple as it used to be. At Cicero's, ordering a beer can be a paralyzing prospect, especially if you're at the bar, where the line of taps runs the full length and the nearby cooler is stocked with just about anything you might conceivably ask for -- and lots more. The basics (Bud and its variations, Miller Lite) are there, as are the next levels up (Sam Adams, Newcastle, Guinness, Bass) and down (Pabst Blue Ribbon). All four versions of local powerhouse Schlafly are on... More »
There are two kinds of people in this world: those who like pineapple-and-ham pizza and those who are pitied by the first group. Granted, the idea of eating pizza with pineapple on it sounds a little funky -- until you try it. Once you do, the gates of understanding open and the pizza-delivery vehicle drives straight through to the brain's pleasure center. Over at Cicero's, the Hawaii Five-O does it one better. With the addition of hot cream cheese (!) to the mix, the chewy texture of the... More »
