Description

Does the city really need another faux-rustic-yet-expensive Italian restaurant? In the case of Ciano, a new cozy Gramercy eatery, the answer is yes. Bask in the warm glow of the dining room"s commanding fireplace before tucking into appetizers like ultra creamy burrata with onion jam, ethereally light veal meatballs, and malloreddus (a small, nubby pasta) with crab, speck, and bottarga. Entrees have a hard time competing with the previous courses (not to mention the bread basket with accompanying white truffle butter), but chef Shea Gallente has hit his groove here. An innovative wine program also lets diners imbibe everything on the list by the half bottle.
