Good churros can be hard to find outside amusement parks or county fairs. Churros Calientes, located next to the Laemmle Royal in West Los Angeles and owned by former Venezuelan model and soap actor Sandro Finoglio, sells these warm and sugary sticks of doughy goodness that are closer to Spain than Mexico. Made to order, they come dusted with organic sugar; stuffed or glazed with chocolate, strawberry, dulce le che or guava sauces; or with a cup of rich and bittersweet hot chocolate ideal for dipping. If you want a proper meal before tackling dessert, the menu includes soups, salads and paninis, in addition to Spanish bocadillo sandwiches made with either frittatas, tuna or jamon. Even the list of coffees, teas and beverages covers the globe, from Cuban and Venezuelan espresso to the Venezuelan Tres En Uno drink blended with beetroot, carrot and orange juices.
