The Wans have been running Chinese restaurants around South Florida for more than 40 years, satisfying cravings for fermented black beans or Peking duck without inducing any Fear-Factor-type gag reflexes -- no jellyfish or clotted pig's blood. Ms. Wan is a presence at her new place -- chic and sharp-eyed -- and as always, the restaurant purveys a decent selection of vegetarian dishes. Delicious specialties include the supersweet orange beef made with candied tangerine peel, a jewel-like dish of eggplant in oyster sauce with strips of pork, a unique butterfly shrimp foo yong with bacon, and a selection of very fine homemade potstickers and dumplings.
Vince Tien and Alex Kuk are the two woks behind the TwoWoks pop-up dining experience being set for Monday, April 29 from 6 p.m. - 10 p.m. at Christina Wan's Mandarin House in Fort Lauderdale (664 N. F... More »
Well, it´s all China all the time in the news these days, isn´t it? Between filthy tea, carcinogenic dried apples, and bacteria-laden swordfish imports turned back at our own squeaky-clean borders; the brouhaha over whether Americans should be... More »
Elegant and attentive, a cell phone hooked to her silk sash, Christina Wan patrols her dining room, adjusting the positioning of a plate or glass, stopping to joke with a customer who's been ordering her eggplant with oyster sauce and pork for a decade, and writing down a stream of take-out orders from locals craving her Hawaiian shrimp with candied walnuts, rack of lamb with lemongrass and sautéed greens, or whole Cantonese duck. Wan's feels like a throwback to the old New York Chinatown of the '50s, when lo meins and foo yungs seemed impossibly exotic, when a plate of chow fun noodles tossed with chicken tasted like a ticket to a life of sandalwood and anise and silkworms housed in glass palaces. The world is so much smaller now that our sport shoes and toothbrushes come from China, but Wan's kung po and mu shu still carry in their carefully composed sauces the essence of a time when every border crossing and every mouthful of tangerine peel beef was an adventure.
Literally less than a minute away from my house and this place has spoiled me rotten when it comes to Chinese Cuisine...I will not go anywhere else. They have the freshest ingredients out of ANY Chinese resto, and great deals like the Sunset dinner for only $12 which includes an entree, spring roll, soup, and rice...yumm, getting hungry
The Lunch Specials are delicious and a steal! I always have the sweet & sour chicken. Yum!

The Wan family has been serving wok creations to South Florida since 1966. Its takeout service leans upscale -- with prices to match -- but placing an order is a breeze, and delivery is fast. Lunch specials (starting at $7.95) come with a vegetable spring roll rather than the artery-clogging pork variety that many other places hock. And health-conscious patrons can opt for brown rice at no extra charge. There are even special low-carb and dieter's menu items. Likewise, the appetizers... More »
