Sleek-looking Chi sits in the trendy Central West End neighborhood and serves up a variety of sushi. Sure, you'll find your California roll and spicy tuna, but here you will also find the "Central West End," which includes asparagus, shrimp, salmon, mayo, eel sauce, scallions and masago. Chi also offers reasonably priced lunch specials, nigiri and nigiri combos. There is a modest sake and beer selection and a more robust martini list, including sake martinis.
You might easily overlook Chi Sushi, tucked as it is into a stretch of larger restaurants toward the south end of the Central West End. That would be a mistake. This sleek restaurant serves up terrific sushi, whether you prefer traditional nigiri or elaborate modern rolls. The sushi chefs prepare exquisite nigiri, the fish draped over perfectly seasoned rice, without annoying fake wasabi between the two. Purists might scoff at such over-the-top rolls as the "Chi" (made with shrimp, salmon,... More »
A typical tab for two at Chi, the chic sake and sushi bar in the Central West End, can easily total $100. Visit the place between 4 and 6 p.m., however, and the same meal can be had for half the cost. While not every item on Chi's menu is discounted during happy hour, there are enough options to satisfy the snootiest sushi snob and the thriftiest upwardly mobile diner and drinker alike. Specials include buy-one-get-one-free nigiri, half-off single- and double- ingredient rolls (listed on the... More »
Life is too short to eat subpar sushi. That's what brings us, again and again, to tiny Ch‡ Yoon. The restaurant more than makes up for its postage-stamp space with a larger-than-life menu. Sashimi is fleshy, tender and full of flavor, while seaweed-wrapped thin rolls and reasonably priced medium rolls don't skimp on the fillings. (We highly recommend the white tuna avocado delicacy.) Ch‡ Yoon's specialty rolls--including the caterpillar, wrapped in thick wedges of fresh avocado, and t... More »
Once upon a time, there were some people living in a French-sounding town who were a little slow to adapt to the international ways of the world. Then one day a Japanese restaurant opened, and this mystified and terrified these people. Eventually, though, these finicky, timid people grew to like the dishes served at this new place -- as long as they were teriyaki and tempura. For it was rumored that this restaurant also served raw (!) fish, which they referred to as "sushi." But as time wore... More »
Jae Yoon, one of the restaurateurs behind the Central West End's Chi, plans to open a second Asian eatery in the same neighborhood.Rather than a sushi-and-sake hotspot like Chi, however, the West End... More »
Free for Kansas City residents. Just like any other zoo, there is so much to see it's hard in one day, but it's not impossible!
the zoo is getting so big you might need more than one visit to see everything, and ur feet will freakin hurt afterwards. Foods a ripoff too but still its fun esp. if ur with lil kids
I was a nanny for three years for a family with a Zoo membership... I will say when the weather was nice, we went to the zoo once, maybe twice, a week. It's nice because it's split between Africa and Asia/Australia. One day we'd do one route, and another day we'd do the other. At least that way I wasn't seeing the same animals twice in a week! They bring in lots of touring exhibits, too. Definitely worth a membership if you plan to go a lot!
