Description

We've become so accustomed to gritty, authentic, and mega-delicious southern Mexican cafes that we've forgotten about the gussied-up Mexican restaurants one finds in malls and strip shopping centers across the rest of the country. Founded by Pueblans, the Charrito's mini-chain dominates Hoboken and Jersey City in this regard, offering a pan-national menu that is well rendered, if a little expensive. The menu runs from Tex-Mex fajitas, to maritime shrimp dishes from Veracruz, to cochinita pibil from Yucatan, to an excellent version of mole Poblano over chicken or enchiladas. Set-ups provided if you want to make margaritas or sangria with your own alcohol, and the place is decorated with a replica of Chichen-Itza.
