Despite the Virginia Woolf quotation on the wall ("One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well") and its location in the you-can’t-afford-to-live-here section of Studio City, Charlie’s Pantry is a European bistro minus the fuss. It’s a restaurant, deli and specialty market all rolled into one, so expect plenty of options to choose from. The breakfast menu boasts six for eggs benedict alone, though the Balzac Eggs over a baked tomato stuffed with Ratatouille and olive tapenade looks like a standout. For lunch, you’ll find staple comfort foods with a slightly fancy twist – soups, macaroni-and-cheese and sandwiches, including the classic grilled cheese sandwich brushed with rosemary butter and drizzled with port wine reduction sauce. There are also five kinds of croques. But if you’re looking to go beyond France, the Greek-Zorba-inspired “Anthony Quinn,” for example, comes with lamb and tzatziki sauce in a pita.
Charlie's Pantry has taken over a formerly cursed restaurant space on Boulevard Le Ventura and turned it into a gleaming "Gourmet Eatery & Market." The place does a popular breakfast service.
