Any place with more than 60 different tequilas and nearly 20 different margaritas, open 24/7, is bound to be a happening place. Located in a funky old house that seems to go on forever in the middle of Montrose, this colorful place has become an institution for the all-night crowd looking for a late-night/early-morning hangover cure. Serving inexpensive Tex-Mex standards that start with breakfasts like chilaquiles and huevos rancheros and then progress to quesadillas, tamales, enchiladas and an excellent mole. The menu also surprises with dishes like tortilla-crusted snapper, Mediterranean-style salmon, alambres (kebabs) and sticky pecan cheesecake.

Ah Chapultepec! I have spent countless nights here trying to sober up. This hidden litte gem is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Houston. From the outside it looks like a run down taqueria waiting to plauge your stomach but once ya sit down and try the food you will find its some of the best food you will ever have. Plus its cheap! This place is 24hrs so you will expect to find alot of drunk people here. Also check out the jukebox. This is a nice collection of very rare music but it adds ambiance to this awesome Mexican restaurant. Want the full story? http://bitemehouston.blogspot.com/2009/04/chapultepec.html
When it's three o'clock in the morning and you have somehow managed to talk your designated driver into taking you to get something to eat to save your life, Chapultepec is your Tex-Mex ace in the hole, offering the cheapest breakfast in town. You can get huevos rancheros that may be some of the best in town and a cup of coffee for under three bucks. The bean and cheese enchiladas will do you right, too. Chapultepec is the real deal. You know you're going to get authentic Tex-Mex when you... More »
After a night of drinking enough to make you crave the food of whatever restaurant is in sight, you're not usually worried about the music that accompanies the meal. This is what makes Chapultepec's jukebox such a pleasant surprise. The music machine is loaded with enough classic jazz, soul, rock and Latino hits to make you want to stay past your late fill, which is good for those trying to sober up before the drive home. Albums include Coltrane's Love Supreme, Miles's Bitch's Brew, Fats... More »
There's an undeniable truth in cooking: Deep frying makes everything better. The law behind it is simple. Frying adds fat -- lots of it -- to anything, and fat means flavor. Exhibit A: the chimichanga. The chimichanga is a beautiful thing, in a horrifying way, like a chicken-fried steak. Take chicken, cheese, onions and cilantro, wrap it all burrito-style in a flour tortilla, and submerge it in really hot oil until it's golden-brown. Plan a trip to the confessional and the gym after one of... More »
