There's little we love more than an afternoon hike through the Jewell of the Creek Preserve, then a quick jump over to the Cave Creek Coffee Company for wine tasting, good food and a little live music. After a post-hike cabernet, we go for the Vegetarian Sandwich, piled with roasted Portobello mushroom, fresh mozzarella, tomato slices, fresh spinach, and pesto on toasted garlic bread. Also nice is the aptly-named Big Ass Burrito (also available as the Half Ass Burrito if you're feeling like a smaller portion), full of fresh lettuce and cheeses, beans and meat of your choice. Try the Smoked Salmon Sandwich, flaky fish smothered in a tangy sauce and folded neatly into fresh-baked bread. Visit the roomy, wood-paneled wine bar and sample more than two dozen different brands by the glass while munching on gourmet eats or check your e-mail on your laptop using the free wi-fi network. On certain nights, you can also take in a concert in the backyard, open-air performance space, where various acoustic and Americana musicians strum and sing. Then again, if you're on the run, just grab a cup of fresh-roasted java to go from the coffee bar.

Whether you like your coffee dark, medium, or light, C4 has your strength (in house blends called Black Mountain, Black and Tan, and Cowgirl, respectively). Caffiends with a... More »
A bustling yet intimate gathering place that attracts an eclectic crowd of old cowboys (or city slickers pretending to be old cowboys), businesspeople, tourists, hipsters, and other riff-raff to the main drag in this small-town oasis. Open every morning at 6:30, the popular java joint offers a front porch with a great view of things, as well as leather couches and chairs on which to kick back and work on your laptop, courtesy of the miracle of wireless. The coffee, which is roasted right in... More »
