A marriage of warm, rustic, Texan décor and traditionally prepared Italian favorites, Cavatore is located in an old barn and plastered with an eclectic mix of posters, paintings and accessories. The menu ranges from the token lasagna to fish and seafood dishes, to grilled steaks with herbs, garlic and flamed in brandy. Lunch and dinner prices fall somewhere between mid-range and expensive, depending on the dish. It's popular for special occasions, rehearsal dinners, family gatherings and date nights.
I had dinner at Cavatore's when I was in town from LA and I have to say this is truly a charming restaurant. The atmosphere, food and SERVICE was amazing. It is so rare to find a restaurant with live music, let alone a great singer and piano player, which I enjoyed so much.
My friend and I were warmly welcomed from the moment we walked in the door. Had a great table in the back of the room facing the piano and singer, where we got to people watch as well. I could tell there are families that have been going here for a long time and I love that this place is kid-friendly. I can't explain it, but I just felt happy being there!
Although I am not a ceasar salad kinda gal, my friend who lives in the Heights insisted I order one and wow I am so glad I did! It is light yet tangy, but not too tangy. Perfect. Most ceasar salads are too creamy in my opinion but this was honestly the best one I have ever had, hands down.
I ordered the angel hair with tomato and basil-very simple dish i know but it was sooo good. My friend ordered the escargot and said it was really good too.
Had to have desert of course! We split the white chocolate mousse and that was gone in 2 seconds.Enough said.
I can't wait for my next Houston visit so I bring my family here. The live entertainment is really what makes this place stand out. Actually, everything about this place does. It's easy to see why this place has been around for 36 years.
Federico,
Enjoyed it again last night....as usual. Keep the good times comin'!
Thanks again,
Chef Livingston
Cavatore's is one of my favorite restaurants in Houston-it certainly has the best Italian food! They've recently really made some impressive changes like serving only homemade pasta with a new tomato sauce that's too die for! Everyone mentions the Caesar salad which is awesome and is served table side but the pasta dishes are also fantastic as are the chicken dishes (I haven't tried everything on the menu yet!)
I took my family to Cavatore's a week ago and we were all delighted by the live piano music. It really created a lovely atmosphere! The wait staff are really friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. One of my guests tried the newly revamped lasagna and raved over the delicious flavors including bechamel sauce ( can't go wrong with that!) I had my favorite, crawfish alla rosa, and the other guests tried the special which was the veal stuffed ravioli.
Cavatore's is a fixture in the Heights and has been around for almost 30 years. I will definitely be back soon!

Cavatore's has been serving Houston families for generations. A warm, friendly staff, excellent food, reasonable prices and Michaelangelo on piano make this one of the most popular Italian restaurants in town. (Folks drive in from the suburbs to dine on Cavatore's scrumptious spaghetti and handmade meatballs.) The restaurant is still owned and managed by the Cavatore family, who keep the food and service quality high, paying personal attention to everything that comes out of the kitchen.... More »
