We just stayed at Castaic Lake over the weekend and have come back home severely disappointed. Actually pretty upset because someone slashed one of the tires on our travel trailer. We spent three nights there and there wasn’t one quiet night. Every night there was a group of inconsiderate/ down-right rude campers that thought it was ok to blast their music and scream and party all night while camping in close proximity to other campers. Hell, it was like we were at a concert half the time. Every once in a while, before the sun went down, there were a few moments of quiet on the camping side of the lagoon and a glimmer of peacefulness, only to be diminished by the constant roar of swimmers/picnic-ers on the west side of the lagoon that carried all the way over. And the Sheriffs? What a joke, they never stopped anything. Quiet time was supposed to be from 9:00 or 10:00 pm (depending on who you talked to), but parties went until well after 1:00 a.m. Although one of the rules is no alcohol, it doesn’t seem to be enforced. The party we believe was responsible for slashing our tire had bottles clinking all night and even a keg in addition to the blaring music and loud, cackling laughter. The place was extremely hot, crowded and no hookups for RV camping (which we understood since it was only $20 per night). The bathrooms were definitely gross and creepy with no stall doors, etc. Luckily we didn’t need to use them. We came away feeling that this place is definitely a case of “you get what you pay for”. I guess there was a reason that there were still spaces available 2 weeks before labor day weekend. In hindsight, that should have been a warning to us. The ONLY redeeming quality of the RV/trailer camp sites was the pretty view of the lake. Despite that, unfortunately, we will never go back and we will be sure to warn everyone we know not to go, either.
