Maybe it's a play on the name, or maybe it's just coincidence, but Brazilian restaurant Casa looks just like that: a home. The interiors are well-furnished with lacey curtains that might be more at home in the suburbs than in the West Village, but nonetheless they set the mood for a singular Brazilian dining experience. There are dishes that are still distinctly Brazilian, such as feijoada, Brazil's adopted national dish of pork and beans. There are more familiar offerings, too, like beef stroganoff and pork chops, but meat is overall a very heavy player in a menu that offers other, less obvious regional dishes (shrimp and coconut stew; a pumpkin dish served with shrimp). The drinks are authentic too, and the best might be the caiprinha, which is flavored with lime and lots and lots of sugar. Casa Restaurant might possibly be home to some of the most authentic Brazilian in Manhattan. --Shane Barnes
great authentic braziliian, drinks rock too
Although it looks for all the world like the dining room of a home in northwestern Brazil--complete with lace curtains, embroidered place mats, dark wood, and folk art--Casa is a restaurant, which serves up the food of that continent-sized country. The menu's regional offerings include a stewed chicken with okra that harkens back to Bahia and the churrascaria-style steak that tells of the southern pampas, so you can select and concoct your own culinary tour.
