Teller, the usually silent half of magician duo Penn & Teller, recently spilled his thoughts in Smithsonian Magazine on the psychology behind illusions and tricks. Rather than rendering silly the oohs and aahs magic can inspire, his statements bolstered our respect for the badasses who can blow minds with sleight of hand -- like The Carnival of Illusion, which swings through Saturday.




Roland Sarlot and Susan Eyed are the hands and minds behind the show that has garnered acclaim all across the nation. Combining old school work ethic with an intimate and fun performance that echoes the days of Vaudeville, the Tucson-based duo conjures up the kind of mystery that brings an audience together in awe. If that’s not magic, we'd argue that nothing is.

    This is a very very very disappointing experience.

    Avoid it unless you get some silly deal and want to see the Biltmore. This is busker quality magic, parlor tricks, done with sincerity and competence but hardly what you'd expect for the price. At about 55 minutes with a break it is hardly a night and for the price you would expect Penn and Teller. What you get is a small room with poor sight lines even though there are only 5 or rows and no atmosphere...its just a small meeting room. The magic is competent sleight of hand and set up stuff, competent but not oh my. Coming to the Biltmore and paying over 40 dollars did you expect more? Now you know.
