Authentic regional Italian cooking may be all the rage nowadays, but luckily some places still serve up classic Italian-American red sauce fare. The look is pre-war Americana, complete with rich red banquettes, chandeliers and black-and-white photographs of famous Italian-Americans. Food is served in huge portions meant to be shared. Dishes like the linguine with clam sauce, penne alla vodka, chicken parmigiana and veal scaloppini may not win awards for originality, but they¹re treated with respect and care. It's the kind of
sauce- and garlic-heavy cooking that should hit that warm, nostalgic spot in any American's heart. The Italian wine list is full of varieties in the $30 range and the martinis (available in a questionable number of flavors)are big enough to ensure you'll be in a good mood. It's proximity to Times Square means it's absolutely packed with tourists and families, so don't go there expecting a quiet night out.—Keith Wagstaff
