Pleasant, artsy eatery that serves mostly Italian, French, and Mediterranean-influenced soups, sandwiches, and salads. Try the Europa (with marinated artichoke hearts) or the Italian (with salami, ham and pesto), and you can't go wrong. And the duo of hummus dip and olive tapenade, served with pita triangles, is delish as a starter. The place also serves a nice selection of wine and beer, and is happy to do a wine flight for you if you want. Live music some nights. A very civilized spot in the heart of Roosevelt's ever-developing arts district.
There’s a new weekly Live Visual Art series, and it’s happenin’ at one of our favorite Roosevelt Row hangs: Carly’s Bistro. Enjoy the $3-glass-of-w...

When temperatures in Phoenix are lower than they are in Anchorage, Alaska - you know it's time for a drink. Fortunately, these three Phoenix based bars are serving up drinks both hot and heavy - perfe... More »
I've been to Carly's for lunch and for late-night drinks, and I recommend these two things wholeheartedly: eat the turkey and goat cheese sandwich with a side of orzo, and drink a Moscow mule. I won't require you to get both at the same time, but I imagine they would compliment each other very nicely.
Event Review: Brunch at Carly's
I take exception with the "Los Angeles assholes" point. Fact of the matter is that those "assholes" are not only trendsetters, but what they do , the whole nation end up doing a few years later.
More than anyone else, Phoenix repeats all what LA does, because this city is a Los Angeles wanna be.
I have not eaten here yet, but believe me, it's on my list! I stopped in for a drink and took a look at the menu while I was at the bar. WOW this place looks sooooo goood I'm defiantly going to have to go back now for something more than just a drink!
The old saying goes -- liquor before beer never fear; beer before liquor, never sicker. But what happens when you combine wine, whiskey, and other liquor together in one cocktail? We think it sounds like a hangover waiting to happen, but Carly's has managed to turn it into a sultry drink that we love sipping while enjoying one of their pressed sandwiches or a light hummus plate. The downtown Phoenix café combines whiskey with red wine, raspberry liquor, Orangina, and a splash of... More »
Nerds of the world, unite! Oh, wait, you already did. From Amsterdam to Austin, self-proclaimed nerds are gathering at bars and restaurants to drink and, as they put it, "learn something." And Phoenix is no exception. The new-ish chapter of this oh-so-informal club meets at Carly's Bistro on Roosevelt Row. Topics so far have included "Dialogues between Science and Literature," the story of "audience modeling software," and one we're really sorry we missed -- our own Serene Dominic on... More »
During our probably-too-long drinking career, the bloody Mary had ranked near the bottom of our desired beverage list, hovering somewhere around a Smoker's Phlegm (Jägermeister and mayonnaise) in the gross department. That's until we hit up Carly's Bistro during its weekend brunch and ordered the eatery's version of the drink, which includes V8, vodka, balsamic vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, pickle and olive juices, various spices, horseradish, and hot sauce. And, wow, Carly's version... More »
If there was ever an excuse to mosey on down to Roosevelt for something other than the gallery scene, Carla Wade and John Logan's funky bistro is the reason. The arty couple opened the cozy eatery and wine bar to satisfy a need to feed hungry lunch folks and the libation-seeking arts crowd. A four-by-six-foot customized Steven Yazzie painting overlooks the bar, and rotating First Friday exhibits hang next to the funky sky-blue-and-tangerine-painted walls. Enjoy a wide selection of cheap... More »
One of the best salads ever created is the niçoise, made after the manner of cuisine from the French city of Nice, and containing such ingredients as tomatoes, black olives, garlic, tuna and anchovies. More often than not these days, you'll find this classic cold mixture as the innards of a niçoise sammy, but you can still find places that offer it as a salad, with Carly's Bistro on Roosevelt Street, just east of Central Avenue, being one. As prepared by co-owner Carla "Carly"... More »
