The pillowy, mellow Mediterranean thing this place has going on isn't BS. The service is top-notch, and the various hummus, prawns, and empanadas are all good, especially if you're going to pair them with a sip of the Casbah, a house special featuring pomegranate syrup, orange juice, Absolut Citron, and Cointreau. Dinners have style-but drinks and appetizers on the upstairs patio are the way to go.

    The Capitol Club probably was the height of trendy in 1996, with Moroccan/Café del Mar sensibilities including golden walls and plush jewel-toned pillows in candlelit, communal dining areas. Upstairs, a marvelous deck ringed with tiny lanterns and flower baskets projects itself onto Pine Street; it's a feature that never goes out of style.     The Capitol Club is my house of worship. Its Sunday all-day happy hour offers $3 well drinks and $4 sangria and house wines that can be enjoyed at a balcony table or, when the sun fails to prevail, indoors on a comfy velvet chair. More welcoming than the generous supply of throw pillows are the friendly bartenders who sympathize as you lament the fleeting weekend, and console you with their bizarre yet tasty concoctions. Have a little faith and indulge their experimentation. One sip of a bacon chocolate martini will forever convert you into a regular and help you avoid Monday morning just a little while longer.—Erika Hobart
