Canteen's atmosphere and drinks, I enjoy. Canteen's food...not so much. I've tried it three different times - from wings on the appetizer menu, to fish tacos (extremely fishy tasting), to an enchilada dish with a very off-putting sauce - each time, just blah. Go for some different margaritas, like the Sonoran or Hibiscus, and hang out in their cushy booths or on the back patio - just be sure to eat before you come.
If you can make it past the throngs of ASU students on Mill Avenue feeling the effects of 21st-birthday shots and chanting what sounds like a mix between the school fight song and a fraternity anthem, head straight through the doors of Canteen Modern Tequila Bar.
