Description

The new venture from former Melange chef Chris Lee combines the best aspects of the coffeehouse and the fast-casual joint - comfortable but not faux-bohemian, efficient but not corporate-slick - with a soupçon of Parisian bistro. Here you can have a light lunch of excellent lobster bisque, sip a cappuccino while you study for the LSAT or even blot out a bad day with real-deal absinthe. Breakfast offers soufflés and Panini; soups, salads and sandwiches comprise the selections for lunch and dinner. Standouts are the beignets and the crab "cake," the latter a tart with blue crab meat and cream cheese in a short-dough crust.

  • 2009 | Best Coffeehouse

A coffeehouse should percolate more than just good coffee: Creativity, community and peace of mind are also essential ingredients in a winning brew. Café Ventana succeeds thanks to a beautiful space that feels just right whether you're chatting with friends over cappuccino or wine, studying for final exams, reading the daily fishwrap or writing the latest revision of your Great American Novel. Add a menu that draws from the traditions of both Paris and New Orleans, and you could... More »
