Despite a bit of a rocky start when it opened in 2003, the Café Boulud experience is now as starched and polished as the dining room?s tablecloths and heavy silverware, as refreshed as the splashing fountain in the courtyard. New York celeb chef Daniel Boulud has divided his menu into four sections, each more gorgeous than the next. Everything is cooked to high standards by executive chef Zach Bell, who?s been nominated for multiple James Beard awards, among other kudos. Depending on the season, you might find paté de campagne, potato leek soup, Dover sole, and braised short ribs with hangar steak. Or roasted beet salad, heirloom tomatoes, Peekytoe crab, Scottish salmon, and Peking duck from Pennsylvania. Or Hawaiian tuna tartare, mushroom risotto made with black trumpets and hedgehogs (the wild fungus, not the burrowing animal), Chinese steamed red snapper, and Austrian-inspired venison. Whatever time of year you visit, you?ll have an unforgettable meal served with impeccable flair and dignity.
