Description

Addis means flower, but it also connotes the capital of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa. This sleek Harlem café offers the standard Ethiopian menu, presented in the standard ways. (Why can't Ethiopian menus be more adventuresome?) That said, the national dish of doro watt is particularly good here, presenting chicken and a boiled egg (mother-and-child reunion?) in a thick-as-a-brick red broth, savory and finger-staining. The connection with African-American cuisine lies in the collard greens, an agreeable part of a vegetarian menu that mainly features lentils in a half-dozen lovely shades of yellow and brown. In addition to being a restaurant, the place also functions as a coffee house and clubhouse for Ethiopian ex-pats.
