fri 4/6 Kitty, Daisy & Lewis EL REY THEATRE These U.K. early-rock kids put out a self-titled debut over here in 2009, which earned them a left-field opening slot with Coldplay and not much else. (Unless we're counting a permanent space in my... More »

Let's take off at a gallop, since there's a lot of it, beginning with veteran drummer Clayton Cameron's sextet at LACMA on Friday. No word on the lineup, but Cameron has the habit of drumming with some pretty great company, so we're betting this... More »

Eric Dolphy is just too wild. That sound of his is just too intense for most jazz listeners, let alone anyone else. You won't hear him on the radio, excepting KPFK. You don't hear about Eric Dolphy Day, either. It's not till June 20, but we're... More »

Last night Jimmy Hendricks was smiling as Dave Osti layed it down honoring some of his classics...this local boy has a God given skill to shred on guitar that makes watching him play mesmerizing. Apart from the skills on guitar his bass player and drummer are all so in tune that this trio (the dynamites) made me wonder... how these guys ar not playing The Royal Albert Hall in London or something. This CD is full of some smooth blues tracks not to be missed.
