A rare non-Kosher Uzbeki café, the Albatros must have once been a Japanese restaurant, one of many located along Sheepshead Bay's curving main drag. The so-called Greek salad is a delight, a dome of lettuce, onions, feta, and that dry cousin of pastrami, bastirma. So is the chopped-lamb lula kebab, which comes two to a plate, sided with your choice of fries, mashed potatoes, rice, or kasha. While the chicken tabaka is only so-so, the bulging sumac-dusted dumplings called manti–served untraditionally with sour cream–left a lasting impression on us. In Russian, the name apparently lacks the sinister connotations it possesses in English.
