Description

One of the few Valley Chinese restaurants that could hold its own in New York's or San Francisco's Chinatown. C-Fu specializes in seafood so fresh, most of it is still swimming when you order it. Don't miss the chrysanthemum-steamed fish, Marco Polo lobster or Dungeness crab. Non-seafood dishes are also expertly prepared, particularly the Mongolian beef and spicy pork chop. Dim sum daily, too.

  • 2005 | BEST RESTAURANT FOR KIDS

Under the best possible circumstances, dining out with kids is enough to send you to bed for the night with a very, very bad headache. We have developed a close, personal relationship with Easy Mac, Kraft's foolproof (as long as you nuke the noodles, not the cheese powder -- true story) mac 'n' cheese. But mom and dad cannot live by faux-cheese noodles alone, and baby sitters are expensive. So sometimes we venture out, Tylenol waiting by the bed. On such evenings, we're grateful to the very... • 2004 | BEST DIM SUM

These days, Chandler's about as close as the Valley comes to having its own "Chinatown," and we mean that term broadly, in the most Pan-Asian way possible. Not only can Chandler boast of having Lee Lee Oriental Supermarket, Restaurant Cyclo, Swaddee Thai, and Lotus Asian Cafe and Grill, but the diamond in its culinary crown is C-Fu Gourmet, where you can enjoy dim sum that's as good as any you'll get in, say, Monterey Park, California (known as Cali's "Little Taipei"). Dim sum is Cantonese... More »

  • 2002 | Best Seafood Restaurant

In Manhattan's or San Francisco's Chinatown, our criterion for selecting a seafood restaurant is simple. It must have live fish, and lots of it, on display. While the Valley lacks a Chinatown, we've found the fresh fish alive and swimming at C-Fu. The choices change with the seasons, but we can usually count on shrimp, Dungeness crab, lobster, oyster, tilapia, flounder or sea bass. Portions are huge, almost two dozen shrimp per order, two-pound crabs, whole fish. Selections are huge, too,... More »

  • 2001 | Best Dim Sum

We love meals on wheels. As long as the meals are prepared by C-Fu, and the wheels belong to the dim sum carts careening around the warehouse-size dining room seven days a week. Just sit tight and wait for a cart to bring you more than 60 choices to tempt your taste buds. Chow fun noodles, Chinese broccoli, pork siu mai and baked barbecue pork buns are must-eats. Delectable dumplings stuffed with meat or seafood, fried shrimp balls, sticky rice in lotus leaf, stuffed eggplant and turnip... More »

  • 2000 | Best Dim Sum

C-Fu's got excellent Chinese food, and then some. It's got meals on wheels, and dim sum.The huge restaurant becomes an autobahn during lunch seven days a week when the dim sum carts come careening out, their drivers dodging giant tanks full of fish, clusters of tables and quick-footed waiters clearing plates and refilling beverages. Customers wave the carts in like taxis, choosing among the 60-plus items offered. Some ask for explanation; others just point and say, "Bring it... More »

On an enthusiastic endorsement from a family member, we made the 45-minute trek across the Valley to try C-Fu. Maybe we caught them on an off-day, but our singular experience with them was only memorable because of how bad it was. We waited over a half hour for a table, even though there were plenty available, and once seated we had to wait another 15 minutes before our order was taken, and another 15 minutes before it was brought to us. If you're keeping track, that's an hour from door to dinner. Once served, the food was marginal at best, and largely unmemorable. Again, maybe we just didn't catch them at their best, but with the reputation C-Fu holds, we expected far better. We won't be trying again.
