Fancy yourself a pool shark? Seen The Color of Money one too many times? This North Phoenix pool palace has a bevy of billiards tables (38 of 'em, to be exact) on which you can put your skills to the test. Pool prodigies sporting jeans and black concert tee shirts bring their custom cues to shoot both some stick and the breeze. Over in the adjacent game room and smoking lounge, however, there's Texas Hold'em, shuffleboard, a hockey game, and other distractions. The bar features 11 brews on tap, 36 different imports and domestics in bottle form, and enough daily specials (such as $2 PBRs) to afford you enough liquid courage to try your hand at the weekend karaoke.
This is not a good place to go to shoot pool. It is very noisy. There is seldom any chalk either for your hands or for the cue sticks. The food in is flavorless, especially the burgers ($1.00 burgers at fast food restaurants are better). If you are not a man under the age of 30, you will be ignored by both the bartenders and the wait staff. I drink club soda which is supposed to be calorie free carbonated water. Unfortunately they add syrup which does nothing to improve the flavor. It just adds calories and gives them a reason to charge $3.50 per glass without free refills. The bartender Brooke, likes to stand at the front door and blow smoke into the customer’s faces while they enter and exit (even though the smoking area is just a few feet away from the door). A lot of the time, most of lights in the ladies room are out making it seem like a cave. This of course might be a good thing because then we can’t really see just how disgusting it is. The $5.75 for a large pitcher of beer after 8PM is a good price, but the owner would not know another drink special if it came up and bit him on the ass. There are lots of other places in the valley to play pool, eat, and drink. I recommend you try one of them.
BullShooters is one of my top places to shoot pool. They have tables that are all different sizes and there is plenty of room to move around unlike some other bars where tables are too close and players are bumping into each other. As davelog mentioned, the food here is not very good. I had their nachos and cheese. The chips were stale and smothered in cheap tasting cheese. The staff here is always friendly.
Excellent pool hall with actual dartboards. The food is disappointing bar-fare (the last time I was there, a bartender told me the burgers were all pre-cooked, and there's no way it was a 1/2lb as advertised) but there are plenty of restaurants around there if you can bear to wait until after shooting pool to chow.
There's felt as far as the eye can see at BullShooters, as this pool hall is in a building the size of a Walgreens and contains 42 tables. That isn't the only way in which it towers over the competition. Twenty-six TVs are mounted throughout, there are 12 electronic dartboards on the premises, and a full bar and kitchen has 11 drafts available. What about the pool? The tables are well maintained (no wobbling here) and there's nary a warped stick. Coin games go for 75 cents, with hourly... More »
