This is the one you must visit if you’re tired of Indian restaurants that serve desiccated meats suspended in gluey sauces cloaked in spice clouds. Bukhara Grille serves a hybrid menu of the royal cuisines of Lucknow and Hyderbad, two principal cities in southwest and northwest India, respectively, along with kabob work from Bukhara, Uzbekistan, a key node on the cultural transmission artery known as the Silk Road. At Bukhara you’ll find moist tasty tandoor chicken, rich grilled shrimp in tamarind sauce, spicy black lentils slow-cooked in cumin and ginger, juicy lamb kabobs framed in the heady perfume of fresh roasted and ground spices. This is the one. There is no substitute. Yet.

By Mark Stuertz | Thu, December 20, 2007

You don't get the pinks or the sheers, the lavish brasses or the visages of Shiva. You don't get the busy pungent fogs of a hundred spices ground and goaded to cloak the hearty smells of protein buried deep within: lentils and lamb, shrimp and chi... More >
