Description

This Western-themed counter service cafe is a breakfast bonanza on weekends, when the line snakes out the door with singles in need of morning-after migas, and soccer moms and dads feeding the clan giant apple-wheat pancakes and peppered bacon. This casual cafe also has a dinner menu. Breakfast has a strong Mexican accent - try the bulging burrito stuffed with egg, sausage and green chiles - but still speaks in more traditional Southern tones, too, with wake-up plates like hotcakes, creamy cheese grits and pecan-smoked sausage. For lunch and dinner, the grill serves decent burgers as well as chicken and dumplings, catfish, chicken-fried steak and King Ranch chicken.

If you want to avoid the hyper-corporate flopcakes at places like International House of Crap or the House of Guys, head on over to one of these home-style grills. Buffalo Grille has good old-fashioned hotcakes the size of your head. There is no short-stack, or even a half-stack. Stacking these country cakes would be totally ridiculous. They're huge and hot and tasty. The only thing better than lathering the pancake with butter and sweet, sticky syrup is ordering a side of... More »

Buffalo Grille "Man, it feels like someone jammed a shard of glass through my forehead. What time is it" "It's, like, noon, dude." "Ugh. It's bright out. What the hell were we drinking last night, anyway" "Bartender called it Gulps Gone Wild. I think I saw him put 151, SoCo, some kind of schnapps and, like, Fierce Melon Gatorade powder in it." "Christ! What's with this long line" "Dude, this place is so worth it. These people know what's up." "Man, I hope so. Shit's taking a while.... More »

The walls at the Buffalo Grille [3116 Bissonnet, (713)661-3663] are a virtual shrine to the Old West, a time when the restaurant's namesake animal was indeed a primary source of sustenance. The grill's rough-'n'-tumble attitude filters right down ... More »

My Trip to West U I prefer West U in small doses. I get to say that because I used to live there, in a charming frame bungalow that got torn down and replaced by a monster house that bulges out to the lot line. That's the kind of thing to which... More »

It's moving soon. Lines out the door but coffee while you wait. So worth the lines and the artery destruction. Tastes like home.
