New Times Broward-Palm Beach's Description

The old dame of Worth Avenue has seen its share of society types -- particularly ladies who lunch and wealthy "uncles" with affectionate "nieces" cooing over each other in corner booths. The bar scene can be meat-marketish, but the players are at least amusing. Foods are solid if traditional -- caviar; crabmeat cocktail; smoked salmon; two "house" specialty soups, black bean and gazpacho; steaks (bone-in rib eye); and seafoods that stay within the comfort zone of Palm Beachers, some of whom have been coming to the Worth Avenue eatery for half a century. A younger crowd shows up for Sunday brunch - tasty choices are proffered from an à la carte list, and addictive muffins and breads disappear from the baskets at an alarming rate. The crab Benedict is a house specialty, thanks to a perfect Hollandaise sauce, but it's a tough choice between that and the blueberry-oatmeal pancakes or (gasp!) huevos rancheros, a curious find on this island. Prices are up there, but the Sunday brunch is the deal and can be had for under $15 if you skip the hearty cocktails (you shouldn't!). It's a must-do if you're visiting the island.
