Description

New Times Broward-Palm Beach's Description

John Spoto knows how to please diners - with consistently fresh, quality food offerings and good service that accommodates nearly every request. That's what's here, at the Palm Beach Gardens Oyster Bar, now his only one since the original in downtown West Palm Beach closed. (He does have a steak house, the Oakwood Grill, nearby.) It's a good-sized eatery decorated in warm woods with historic oyster fishermen posters all around, jazzy music overhead, and crisply dressed servers. Outside seating on the dog-friendly patio is available, along with seating at the adjoining Blue Point bar, where there's sometimes live music. Of course, there are oysters - cleverly displayed under an ice waterfall behind the main bar where shuckers are always busy. Several varieties are available year-round at the lively eatery, and many are served on the shell. Make reservations, or for a great value, go for lunch. There's a good wine list and a full bar. (Chilled vodka goes great with oysters.) Hard not to get past the oysters on the half-shell, but don't pass up the creamy clam chowder -- and leave room for the noted coconut cream pie.

  • Bloomingdale's on 08/12/10

It’s all about the bivalves: raw, baked, or bouillabaissed. Foodies can watch the shuckers in action at the raw bar; scenesters might prefer the courtyard, in full view of the passing PBG parade.
