Grand Lake Chinese Restaurant
West Palm Beach, FL 33411
New Times Broward-Palm Beach's Description
The dim sum served daily at Grand Lake, out in the middle of Nowheresville west of Jog Road in West Palm Beach, is worth carpooling up for. There's a list of 64 specialties under $10 and a half dozen others, such as whole roast duck, beef chow fun with black bean sauce, and pork pan-fried noodles, that squeeze in under $20. Owners Chloe and Erik Poon are from New York, which explains why they've been able to win over the pickiest of local Chinese and American foodies. Their steamed-shrimp dumplings are practically dewy, stuffed with big chunks of fresh, salty shellfish. Pan-fried pork dumplings are crisply browned on the outside, juicy within. A delectably gluey turnip cake emanates subtle, sulfuric whiffs of that earthy root. Everything is beautifully seasoned and right out of the steamer or frying pan - nothing is left to sit under hot lights.
