Wine snobs be damned: Phinney's Brouwer's, with its 50 taps and 200 bottles (not to mention the 40 scotches) proves that beer-and-food pairing can be an elevated pursuit. There are literally hundreds of brews available, mainly Belgian but also ales from the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, and across the U.S. (Whisky is the second love here; the selection of single malts is sizable.) A hearty Lost Coast accents the rib eye and Belgian fries, the Piraat matches up with a robust Gruyère and ham sandwich, and the invigorating Duvel helps even slight delays in service speed by. In the converted warehouse, a surrounding balcony of tables overlooks a bustling main house with stonelike walls, concrete floors, a friendly level of music and clanking, and the determined eating of lamb burgers.
You have to go there to believe it. Hundreds of beers available, most having their own signature glass, plus something like 60 rotating taps. If you have a love affair with beer, you owe to yourself to get over to Fremont and indulge yourself.
Good food, great beer, intelligent staff, a little pricey, but worth the trip.
You like beer - you'll love this place! Hundreds of beers on the menu...I recommend "The Duchess."
