In Brooklyn’s tiny DUMBO neighborhood is one of the city's most diverse (and smallest) parks, offering up programs of jazz, classical, and countless other events. And though there’s something for everyone--from Shakespeare to festivals of trumpet music to free movies to activities for children--the best part about this spot is the view. Lower Manhattan hardly looks as good except when you're sprawled out on a great lawn with a bottle of white wine at hand, fronted by the Metropolitan Opera or a great rock band. Hurricane Sandy couldn’t even squash the spirit here. The famous riverside carousel emerged from the flooded water unharmed. --Dale Eisinger

Well, it didn't work out. You just weren't compatible; you're a Virgo from a small family, and she's a controlling maniac with undiagnosed histrionic-personality disorder. When it's time to end things, take her to Brooklyn Bridge Park. It's free, and God knows you've already spent enough money on a girl you met while waiting in line to ride a mechanical bull. The park's gorgeous panoramic view of lower Manhattan will serve as a reminder that there are plenty of men out there to meet, and the... More »
Assembling a soundtrack for Brooklyn is easy as pie (or a slice of Junior's marble cheesecake)--all you need is five minutes and an iTunes account. The borough has inspired Steely Dan's "Brooklyn," Louis Prima's "Brooklyn Boogie," Sammy Cahn's "The Brooklyn Bridge," Jay-Z's "Brooklyn Go Hard" and "Brooklyn High" and "Brooklyn's Finest." But for the past several years, the Prospect Park concert series Celebrate Brooklyn! has achieved a much more difficult feat: In Music and Movies, BRIC... More »
Many people are raving about the new park that is steadily expanding southward along the old piers below the bridges on the Brooklyn side of the East River--and for good reason. Brooklyn Bridge Park lets you get so close to the river that you end up thinking like Walt Whitman, even if you never read his lines about "the current rushing so swiftly, and swimming with me far away." Architecture critics have praised the new paths and grassy hills. But there's also another little-noticed... More »
