Once you get past the plus-size pinecones littering the countertops, Brickhouse Cafe is a pretty straightforward place: $2 pints of Pabst Blue Ribbon, Anchor Steam-battered fish on a golden bed of fries, and what the menu proudly calls the "big ass" burger, a sloppy monstrosity on a ciabatta roll. Aside from the food being better than most similarly conceived joints, there are a few wrinkles: For starters, the owner's fishing trips occasionally supply the kitchen with sockeye salmon, and his family's eastern Washington farm raises all the grass-fed beef for those burgers.
