In its nearly 45 years of existence, Brent’s Delicatessen & Restaurant in Northridge has garnered an enviable list of top honors from critics ranging from Los Angeles Magazine to Zagat Survey to the Food Network. Though the West Valley institution opened in 1969, the deli business has been in owner Ron Peskin’s blood since his teens. Now, a younger generation is serving Jewish deli classics like latkes, knishes, kreplach, stuffed cabbage and pastrami and corned beef sandwiches stacked high and to mouth-watering perfection. A hearty meal for lunch or dinner is what makes a deli ground zero for comfort food. But what about the most important meal of the day? What about oat bran pancakes? Both thin and thick-cut French Toast? A smoked fish buffet? Brent’s just might have you at Lox Benedict. If man could live by breakfast alone, he’d be very happy here.
