Description

Bozu has boldly shouldered the task of being a sushi innovator, remaking maki rolls (try salmon drenched in raw garlic), but more importantly, inventing athe bomba-sweet vinegared rice fashioned into buttons topped with fish, further surmounted with a variety of crunchy, smeary, branchy things. The party bomb presents three each of six varieties, with some room for latitude; sushi aficionados shouldn't miss it. Further, there are a series of vegetarian salads featuring grain, tofu, and avocado that make a perfect prelude to your raw-fish orgy. The premises are pleasantly louche and subterranean.

Summer Guide: Eat the Phreak -- Make This Summer Your Salad Days

Say 'salad,' and most folks think of a pile of leafy greens, with a cherry tomato or two thrown on top. Though crisp, refreshing, and sometimes squirted with interesting dressings, it’s never been more than a bit player in the theater of repast.... More »

Great outdoor space, really healthy options. One of my favorite dishes is the lotus root marinated in sesame oil.

  • 2006 | Surest sushi--Brooklyn

Let's face it, Brooklyn is not known for its sushi--in fact most of the places I've sampled sucked. But Bozu--a maze-like restaurant relentlessly decorated with red-lacquered heads of Daruma--offers sushi that's not just fresh, but original, too. The favored form of sushi is not the finger-shaped filet on a lozenge of rice, but the "bomb"--fish mounted atop a button of rice, which allows you to easily eat an entire piece without wondering if you should bite it in half.
