Foodies fond of foie gras, vichyssoise and other French fare have no doubt gotten their fix at Bouchon Bistro in Beverly Hills. And no doubt they’ve spotted tourists, film industry types and all manners of posh folk splitting a charcuterie plate or a $110 seafood platter at the raw bar. Owner Thomas Keller (who also has locations in Vegas and wine country’s Yountville) takes the menu seriously, offering classic French dishes from steak with Bearnaise sauce to coq au vin to croque madame. Chef David Hands even gives brunch items likes chicken and waffles (roasted chicken with bacon and chive waffles) and French Toast (banana bread with Chantilly cream and ginger-lime butterscotch) a twist. If you prefer the relaxed outdoors to the fancy environs, the restaurant also packs picnic baskets during the summer ranging from $14 to $48.

So you can't afford a trip to Napa to go to Thomas Keller's French Laundry. So what? Not only is Keller the genius behind Beverly Hills' Bouchon but he also has helpfully provided a less formal, less expensive option right underneath it -- and right near that free parking garage on North Canon Drive. (Score!) Whether you're outside on the sun-dappled patio or inside at the nickel-plated bar, Bar Bouchon has a low-key vibe and the prices to match up until 7 p.m. Oysters are $2 each; the... More »
