Flowers are a beautiful way to show someone you're thinking of them. But the truth is, all you can take credit for is the initial thought -- and choosing the right florist. Once you've done that, it's really up to the floral designer to make the impression you hoped to achieve. Anyone can Google "florist" and find dozens of options, but your goodwill gesture will stand out so much more when it comes from a shop like Botanicals Design Studio. Take one step into the small store on South... More »
To some, flowers seem like an indulgence -- ephemeral décor that joins the compost heap after the wedding, the corporate meeting or the dinner party. To some, flowers seem like an indulgence — ephemeral décor that joins the compost heap after the wedding, the corporate meeting or the dinner party. But to Keith McDonnell and Dean Riebeling, flowers are a vital, vibrant component of daily happiness. McDonnell and Riebeling bring their enthusiasm and artistic vision to Botanicals Design Studio, a large South Grand space that's a riot of colorful flora. Taking cues from the natural beauty of nearby Tower Grove Park and the Missouri Botanical Garden, McDonnell, Riebeling and their fellow designers create arrangements that are beautiful, compelling and dynamic. The designs here appear wholly organic, as if the flowers were meant to bend and fall and soar a certain way, and you'll never encounter cheesy lace or cloying filler-flowers like baby's breath. Botanicals Design Studio opened in 2006 after McDonnell and Riebeling's previous employer, the much-beloved Botanicals on the Park, shut its doors. The tradition continues here to gorgeous effect.
