Forest Park's Boathouse lies in the heart of the park, nestled near the art museum and zoo, making it an easy go-to for weary, hungry park visitors. The patio sits next to Post-Dispatch Lake, where paddle boaters cruise by during the summer/early fall. The menu provides options for all ages, with salads, pizzas, sandwiches and a separate kids' menu. The outdoor bar offers cold beverages for those who are waiting for a table or just want to sit outside and take in the surroundings.

Rent a paddleboat or rowboat ($15 per hour, weather permitting). Ladies: If he helps you into... More »

Lawrence Halprin's stunning gates aside, the park's best actualized improvement is the newly rebuilt boathouse. Though there was some anxiety about the hoity-toity nature of the new facility, designed by local architect Laurent Torno, naysayers can... More »
Forest Park is so full of cool shit, we usually barely notice it. The Boathouse is just about the most overlooked nice thing in it. If you're of an aquarian mind, you can rent a canoe and paddle around for an hour. If you're just looking to socialize, you can buy a beer (Schlafly brand included), a glass of wine or soda pop, then sit back at a table right alongside the water. If you're hungry, you can order a sandwich. Weekend nights, you can check out the band that's playing for free.... More »
