Description

One of two concessions inside Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, Boater's Grill overlooks the tranquil No Name Harbor and offers views of downtown Miami and Biscayne Bay. It also offers some really fresh seafoods, including several paellas (including lobster and shrimp asopado for $26.95 and classic seafood paella for $28.95), lobster, and ceviche (fish or shrimp), all with a slight Latin accent owing to sides such as fried plantains and beans and rice. The standout at this eatery on a dock, however, is the whole fried snapper (choose from red, yellow, cubera, or hog) — all caught locally and bigger than your arm (roughly 2 3/4 pounds to 3 1/4 pounds for $36.95). Also available are pastas, burgers, and desserts such as flan and key lime pie. You'll have to pay the park entrance fee ($5) during the day, but after sunset you'll have to pay only the reasonable prices for fresh, delicious seafood.

If you think your day is beginning to improve now, wait until you try the fish. The casual Boater's Grill, with a dining porch overlooking No Name Harbor in Key Biscayne's Bill Baggs State Park, is the... More »

  • 2004 | BEST-KEPT SECRET

With this, it's a secret no longer. But truth be told, Boaters' Grill has developed a devoted following over the past few years. It is one of two concessions inside Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, both operated by the David Gonzalez family. First was the casual, open-air, Lighthouse Café, so named for its proximity to that Key Biscayne landmark. The similarly designed Boaters' Grill followed, and drew a more select crowd, mainly because of its location across the island, far from... More »
