Description

The chaos hits you as soon as you walk in the door. In front, people crowd around the counter getting their to-go orders from the men hacking apart the ducks that were formerly hanging in the window. The dining room is filled with Chinese families and groups of young people eating cheap Chinese and Vietnamese food. Decoration isn't exactly a priority; bare wooden tables rest on white tile floors, with a few paintings of mountain scenes hanging on the walls next to red banners with gold characters. The menu rarely rises beyond $6 and features plenty of dishes you won't find at other Chinatown restaurants, including things like chewy balls made of cuttlefish in noodle soup, beef belly with egg noodles, pig's feet over rice and pork kidneys served with bean sprouts. Don't worry, not everything is that unusual; you can still find safe fare like lemongrass beef, barbecued pork chops and spring rolls on the menu.—Keith Wagstaff
