BMX Ride Sessions 

Folks tend to associate the very worst of stereotypes with skateboarding and BMX-riding youth: They're loitering slacker potheads disturbing the peace;and by peace, we mean that empty schoolyard or parking lot where they're hurting no one but themselves. Truth is, skaters and BMXers are some of the most hardworking people you'll meet. It takes tons of persistence and tenacity to take up such a hobby; they probably work harder at mastering the board and the bike than, say, your kid does in algebra class. Lake Forest's Etnies Skatepark offers BMX ride sessions three days a week at absolutely no cost, thanks to generous sponsors and tons of fundraising. The park even hosts classes, camps, free shows and film screenings throughout the summer. Now, we realize the BMX bike hasn't penetrated Southern California culture as much as the skateboard or surfboard has, but having a handlebar violently lodge itself in your crevice of choice is every bit as satisfying. — By Vickie Chang
