The massive hulk of Bloomingdaleas East Side flagship, bedecked in flags and abuzz with shoppers, is a New York City landmark. Inside, little old ladies who look like theyave never ventured below 14th Street or West of Fifth Avenue rub shoulders with teenage girls seeking prom dresses, newlyweds ponder their registries, and tourists gawk at everyone and everything. The lighting is atrocious and the space induces claustrophobia, but the store offers exactly what a department store ought to: one-stop shopping.
