Uncooked never tasted so good, say regulars at chef Kelly Dennis' vegan eatery. Actually, uncooked is a bit misleading, because the raw food served at Bliss can be heated to115 degrees. It's still nature au naturel. Take, for example, the burger, the cheese plate and the decadent dark chocolate tart -- none of which is cooked or has animal products. Elixirs, or signature cocktails and beverages made with superfoods that contain phytochemicals (like beta-carotene, stuff that karate chops diseases), are another specialty at Bliss. Don't let all this put you off, though. First-timers are often surprised that the difference between raw food and traditionally cooked foods is imperceptible. They often become regulars or at least tell their friends that Dennis does not serve rabbit food. A color scheme of hushed earth tones further grounds (pun intended) the connection to nature.
This small, mostly outdoor eatery (albeit with plastic covering and stylish décor, including crisp white tablecloths) specializes in vegetarian, raw and vegan dishes, and their salads and faux-lasagna don't disappoint. Yet the most intriguing attraction is the "elixirs," which the Web site describes as "medicinal liquid potions" complete with phytochemicals and antioxidants.
