As the name implies, Blackie's By the Sea sits adjacent to the actual beach of Newport Beach. The quaint cash-only bar offers 12 beers on tap, as well as a handful of bottled brews, a full liquor selection and a modest wine list. More than dozen flat-screen TVs line the walls and a couple of pool tables (free on Wednesday and Thursday nights) sit in the back surrounded by life preservers, beer signs, and photos of regulars and the staff. The bar's merchandise, surfboards and novelty license plates hang from the ceiling; antique beer cans and dozens of police and sheriff's patches line the wall behind the bar. There are no drink specials, but domestic drafts are always $3.50. Blackie's provides free chili dogs on Monday nights, and on Wednesday night, you can get all-you-can-eat tacos with the purchase of two drinks.

I enjoy this bar....It does serve cocktails....and has lots of men...!! I also enjoy...has I have a friend who is a bartender there...which adds to the enjoyment!! This is a bar...that I would reccomend to women, who want to meet men, who are laid back, and are into....any kind of sports...!

There's no shortage of water-close watering holes on Newport Peninsula, but only one is as crusty, uninviting and awesome as Blackie's. After a few hours in the sun, shade your eyes in this dive bar's dankness, shoot some 50-cent pool and marvel at the relatively low bimbo count in the booths. The owners don't mind you bringing your own food in, so grab a corn dog, order a beer or four, and then re-emerge for a nap on the sand. Don't forget to reapply. More »
