Black Jet Baking Co. was started by baking duo Gillian Sara Shaw and Max Newman. It is located in the ferry building on the Embarcadero, and items can also be found at coffee shops around town like Atlas Cafe, Matching Half, Spin City, Avedano's Holly Park Meat Market, and all locations of Ritual Roasters. Black Jet uses high-quality ingredients to create cookies, bundts, bars, pies, cakes, pop tarts, cupcakes and pastries from scratch. They try to incorporate local and organic ingredients into their desserts and pastries whenever possible and use fresh, seasonal, small-batch inna jam from Emeryville to fill their house-made pop tarts. Menu items include oatmeal boozy raisin and cornmeal shortbread cookies, classic carrot and cream cheese cupcakes and layer cakes, brown butter blondie bars, raspberry linzer sandwich cookies, sour cream coffee cake bundts, cranberry sticky buns, and jalepeno cream cheese pops. Black Jet ships orders on Mondays using two-day FedEx delivery service. They also do wedding cakes and wedding favors.

There is something decidedly nostalgic about the high-end Pop-Tarts, ham and cheese bostocks, and other treats whipped up by founder Gillian Sara Shaw and baker Max Newman. Here you won't find desserts brimming over with complexity, as in so many other San Francisco bakeries. Instead, you'll discover idealized classics: a lemon meringue pie that tastes exactly as you wished the one in every deli's spinning pie case always would. You'll find Nutella and salty hazelnuts sandwiched within the... More »
