It's not every coffee shop that also sells wine, beer and food from local bakers and chefs. Montrose's Black Hole Coffee House does, though. It's a huge hit with area residents, too, the airy, low-slung space nearly always filled with St. Thomas students and people taking a break from doing laundry next door. The interior of the former convenience store is littered with visually striking artwork and furniture, and the fact that it’s tucked back in a residential area means it’s quieter than other neighborhood coffee houses.

A dude (I think) named Kyle called me a " n " fagg#t cuz I commented about soggy pastry? Then he/she taunted me 2 meet him/her outside on break so he could teach me how 2 take it like a man! I was appalled! His pimply smelly body was disturbing enough b4 this comment! Never going back there!
This little Montrose coffeehouse serves beer and wine, but what makes it a great place to do a little after-hours work or telecommuting is the spacious dining room -- more so than its Heights cousin Antidote -- and free wi-fi. You'll see plenty of students here pecking away on their laptops or updating their Facebook pages. Their laundry is probably spinning away in the washateria next door. More »
