Description

Live oom-pah-pah music, waitresses decked out in cute dirndl dresses, and more than 25 German beers on tap certainly give Black Forest Mill a fun vibe, but the food's good, too. We're fans of the wiener schnitzel, a crisp, golden fried veal cutlet, as well as the decadent jaeger schnitzel, a sautéed pork cutlet slathered in thick, mushroom-studded gravy. Homemade spaetzle and top-notch sauerkraut are just a couple of the tasty side dishes. Head to the lively bar area to hang with the soccer fans, hit the dance floor when you're feeling extroverted, or snuggle into a cozy curtained booth when you're in the mood to chill.

  • 2009 | Best Dance Night for Grownups Pretending to be Kids

When you're getting a little long in the tooth, it's all about strategy. You've gotta embrace your age during the day (mostly because there's no other choice with that damn sun highlighting your wrinkles) by playing it classy and conservative. Then at night, go away from the light -- get as far away as you can and stay there. Black Forest Mill Restaurant understands. It's a nice German restaurant by day, but transforms every Saturday night into a dark, debaucherous club with DJ Jared... More »

  • 2008 | Best German Restaurant

There aren't too many restaurants that put us into party mode, but we have to smile whenever we think of Black Forest Mill. No matter what month it is, it feels like Oktoberfest as soon as we set foot in this place. Crisp, golden wiener schnitzel, potato pancakes, grilled beer-soaked bratwurst, gulasch made with braised beef and veal, and toothsome homemade spaetzle are just of the few of the hearty dishes we like to feast on as we soak up the cheerful German atmosphere -- and the... • 2007 | BEST GERMAN RESTAURANT

New ownership and a fresh makeover have re-energized the former German Corner restaurant, which reopened as Black Forest Mill earlier this year. With a spacious bar area (where there's a sports bar vibe), cozy dining rooms with curtain-draped booths and dark wood paneling, and even a small dance floor (there's live accordion music on Friday and Saturday nights), it's a refreshingly unpretentious -- and welcome -- addition to the increasingly upscale Arcadia neighborhood. From wiener... More »

    Gravy Kind of Love

How often do you go out for German food? Probably not that frequently, considering there are only a handful of places in the entire Valley that serve it. I admit, I don't indulge in it that often, either. But not because it's too exotic. If... More »
