In 2008, Fort Lauderdale's Bimini Boatyard was sold. Chef Michael Bennet - a decorated veteran of Fort Lauderdale's Left Bank - was brought in to overhaul the menu, and the musty carpeting and worn dining room was ripped out and replaced with smooth hardwood floors and bright-blue seating. But does it matter what the dining room looks like or how many awards the chef has won? When I go to Bimini, it's not for ceviche (pre-made and terrible) or mango "coulis-grette" (watery) or however many tobacco onions you top your dishes with (they're soggy anyway). It's to sit on the docks and eat a fresh piece of grilled, Florida fish - snapper, grouper, mahi, or swordfish - which are still on the menu and still under $20 at lunch. As long as they leave that part intact, we're OK.

Beer: It's what's for dinner. Or, at least, it is this week. Beer dinners, tap takeovers, beer pairings; there's a lot of brews to be had in South Florida. Must be getting close to Oktoberfest. In t... More »
“Worst Customer Service (management especially)” I will never bring a guest. The customer service is absolutely terrible (management). I have a complete distaste!!!!! The Food is not so great as to overlook the killed experience due to complete lack of customer service. There are too many waterfront choices to ever consider spending my time or money at this place again.
For twenty years now, the Bimini Boatyard has been throwing the best Friday after work HAPPY OUR in Fort Lauderdale.
Palm-frond-shaped fan blades stir a slight breeze over the hordes of Red Stripe-drinking, khaki-wearing yachties who make up the usual crowd of this nautical-themed bar. If you get sloshed enough and squint, it even feels like you're aboard a huge, decadent vessel, without the potential seasickness. And if you can't get an actual boat owner to take you back to the (bed of the) yacht, you should at least be able to bed a member of the crew. More »
